Clatsop County firefighters will get federal grant funding for equipment

US Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, who represents Oregon District 1, announced that fire departments in Clatsop County will receive $1,3 million through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

This funding provides firefighters with improved tools and equipment.

Our firefighters and first responders work hard day in and day out to keep our communities safe,” Bonamici said. “This critical funding will make sure that they are well-equipped to protect families and visitors in Clatsop County and stay safe while on the job. Federal funding is especially important for smaller, rural fire departments that struggle to raise the revenue they need for new equipment.”

The grants often provide for equipment departments would not normally be able to afford but is essential. For instance, grant monies from the program will allow Cannon Beach Fire Department to replace emergency radios, update extrication equipment, and replace aging hoses, according to Fire Chief Marc Reckman.

Grant monies will go to fire departments in Cannon Beach, Hamlet, Warrenton, and Knappa.
