Policeman’s helmet is an invasive plant that thrives in moist riparian areas such as the floodplain at North Coast Land Conservancy’s Circle Creek Habitat Reserve in Seaside. Join NCLC to pull, pile, and stomp on policeman’s helmet. This stewardship day is part of a three-year collaboration with Necanicum Watershed Council to rid the watershed of this weed; read more at NCLCtrust.org/pull-pile-stomp. We picked this date in mid-June to catch the plant while it is in bloom and easy to spot, but before it has had a chance to set seeds. (The mature seed pods, when touched, can spread seed as far as 20 feet; the seeds then float downstream and spread the plant farther.) We have another policeman’s helmet pull planned for July 21.
