Join us on Sunday, July 14th at 1:30 for a special lecture Stepping Back in Time: Horse Drawn Transportation in the 19th Century with Jerry Bowman, Curator, Northwest Carriage Museum, Raymond, WA. Bowman is known throughout the country for his knowledge of 19th century horse drawn vehicle history, restoration and conservation. Over the years, he has spoken about his passion for horse drawn vehicles at various museum and history conferences throughout the Pacific Northwest and has been published in several trade journals and newspapers. Jerry is a noted woodworker and has restored more than two dozen vehicles including: buggies, sleighs, wagons and carriages.

Bowman’s presentation is presented in conjunction with the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum’s annual Clamshell Railroad Days. This two day event held July 13 & 14 from 10 AM to 4 PM features model train layouts hosted by the Peninsula Model Railroad Club. Guests will include the Mt. Rainer N-scale club, the Pacific Northwest On30 Club and Dean and Donna Mead’s fantastic Lego train among others. Kids will love the Kid’s Craft Caboose with fun crafts.

The railcar NAHCOTTA will be open for touring both days. Members of the NAHCOTTA Preservation Committee will be onsite to talk about new findings and the ongoing preservation of the railcar. Bowman’s lecture will pay special attention to the transition from hose drawn carriage to the rail carriage. The lecture is Free to Museum members or with admission to Clamshell Railroad Days ($5).
